Pondicherry

Pondicherry officially known as Puducherry is the capital and the most populous city of the Indian Union Territory of Puducherry. Puducherry was colonized by the French East India Company over a period of time and later became the union territory of Pondicherry.

Pondicherry is well connected by Railways, Roads and Airways and is known for its beaches.



Promanade Beach

Promanade beach also known as Rock beach, is just One kilometer from the Puducherry Railway Station. This would be crowded in the evening as people sit on the rocks and enjoy noisy waves. 

It is a 1.2-kilometer long stretch in Pondicherry, starts from War Memorial, it is best suited for an early morning walk. You can also see the Gandhi Statue along the beach site.



Serenity Beach

Serenity beach is on the way from Pondicherry to Auroville. The beach is quiet and peaceful during the weekdays, however on weekends one will see a lot of locals there. 

At serenity beach side you can have delicious sea food at affordable price.


Auro Beach

Auro beach is around 10 km from city center and mostly deserted. It will good to visit if you are looking for solitary and peach of mind.

Nearby is the Auroville Ashram, this is quite a tourist attraction and famous for The Matrimandir. You need to book tickets 2 days in advance to visit.



Paradise Beach

Paradise beach, also known is Chunnamber beach is located near the mouth of the backwater. You can reach here by road or hire boat from Chunnambar Beach and Backwater Resort, a PTDC enterprise.

This has to be the biggest attraction of Puducherry for the visitors. You can enjoy the overnight stay at one of the tree houses in addition to beach volleyball and other beach sports. And if you are lucky, you can even see Dolphins in their natural habitat.
